Koolaid lipgloss… Is it possible??

The last “life hack” of the day to see if they succeed or fail after I was totally worn out. Today we are checking several Lip-gloss recipes… Before you pick one of the recipes, you need to pick a container. Here is what we chose… Tiny heart containers we found  here on Amazon. They hold 5 grams (about 1/2 a teaspoon). I am making in small batches, but I have found it will still fill several containers.

The recipe is simple, here is what you need!

kool aid mixture

Coconut oil, measuring spoons, koolaid packets and a small bowl.

Koolaid process

We pre-melted one tablespoon coconut oil, then mixed a tube of grape store brand koolaid with about 1/4 teaspoon water and 2 packets of splenda, in  separate bowls.

We combined the two until we had a smooth, purple, yummy tasting mixture. It was enough for several containers.

Into the container it went and then into the fridge to cool the coconut oil to cool and harden back up!

And the final project!

I will get pics of her wearing this one later, I’m pretty tired of this process, hehe!

It was a SUCCESS!!

It’s very shiny, but the purple isn’t so bright. Maybe we didn’t use enough koolaid.

DIY experiment – Lipstick and coconut oil… Success or FAIL?

We did one more “life hack” to see if they succeed or fail before I totally wore out. Today we are checking several Lip-gloss recipes… Before you pick one of the recipes, you need to pick a container. Here is what we chose… Tiny heart containers we found  here on Amazon. This time, we tried using Lipstick with coconut oil to see if we could create some brighter lip-gloss. So here we go! We grabbed some lipstick from the Dollar Tree, a candle, Coconut oil, Measuring spoons, and a small bowl.

Ingredients for Lipstick & coconut oil lip-gloss
Ingredients

Just an upfront warning, this project requires an adult!! We measured out 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and melted it slightly in the microwave for about 7 seconds.

Onto the fun part! We snipped off the top quarter of the lipstick and slowly melted it over the lit candle…

Mixing it together was easy and fun! We didn’t grab a photo of that though somehow. It FAILED completely though. The two would not mix.. So no further pics guys. It was fun but messy!

Lip-gloss DIY experiment – Crayons and Coconut oil

We are super busy checking out “life hacks” to see if they succeed or fail.

Here is what we used for this:

Crayons, coconut oil, measuring spoons, candle, old spoon and lighter.

First, e used one tablespoon of coconut oil, heated for about 10 seconds in the microwave.

Gather your crayons and find the color you would like, then peel off the paper and break it up! Funny how our parents always told us not to :p Keep it to about 1/3 of the crayon.

Grab your old spoon and put the crayon bits in!

Crayon & spoon

This part requires an adult. With your lit candle and crayons in the spoon, melt the crayons in the spoon over the flame.

Melting the crayon

Pour it in the melted coconut pretty quickly and mix before it hardens again. We learned this the hard way!

Then, we spooned the mixture (with another spoon, this is important because the back of the spoon will be black and get into the mixture) into the little containers.

I put them in the fridge for about 5 minutes to chill. We put it up to the test. I let my daughter try it, and it worked! The color was not all that bright, maybe we should have used the whole crayon. Here is my daughter modeling her new lip-gloss!

Despite the slight damper in color, it was a SUCCESS!
